本单元围绕“Noises in the night”这一话题,辅之对话和句型,重点讲述过去分词的两种用法,即过去分词作定语和状语。本单元同时复习了拜访、互相介绍、告别场合的交际用语。掌握句型:It’s time+主语+动词的过去式/should+动词原形+sth.。 “是某人该做某事的时候了”。句型中的动词过去式并不表示过去时间的动词,而是表示虚拟语气,注意should在此处不可省。例如:It’s time you went to bed. = It’s time you should go to bed. = It’s time for you to go to bed. It’s time we started. = It’s time we should start. = It’s time for us to start. 同时,也要掌握句型: Her uncleseemed to be acting rather strangely towards her. = It seemed that her uncle was acting rather strangely towards her. 例如:My parents seemed to know that. = It seemed that my parents knew that. 通过本单元的学习,让学生对英国作家柯南道尔爵士笔下塑造的大侦探福尔摩斯在探案方面的足智多谋有进一步的了解。学习他善于观察、分析、勤于思考,严密的逻辑思维能力。培养学生遇事仔细观察、勤于思考、善于推理的能力。

The Past Participle as Attribute and Adverbial(过去分词作定语和状语)

掌握过去分词的要点是:

(1)形式:done

注意是否重复最后一个辅音字母。如:wrapped, referred to , preferred, controlled注意是否为不规则动词。如:cut, woken, lit/lighted, burned/burnt, set, hung/hanged

(2)表示被动完成或完成

及物动词的过去分词表示被动完成。如:

the broken glasses被打碎的眼镜the teach building built last year去年建成的教学楼不及物动词的过去分词表示完成,不表示被动。如:fallen leaves 落叶the risen sun 升起的太阳retired workers 退休工人

(3)注意位置

单个的过去分词一般放在被修饰词的前面,如:the developed countries 发达国家returned students 归国留学生过去分词词组一般放在被修饰词的后面。如:the rope fastened to the tree 系在树上的绳子the trees cut down yesterday 昨天砍的树

(4)作用

作定语:过去分词作定语时,单个词置于所修饰的词前,短语置于所修饰的词。如:The ground is covered by fallen leaves.

地面被落叶覆盖。

Our school has set up a leading group, made up of old, middle-aged and young cadres.

我们学校组成了一个包括老、中、青干部的领导小组。

作状语:过去分词作状语可表示原因、时间、条件、方式或伴随。例如:Encouraged by Engels’ letter, Marx studied even harder, (= As Marx was encouraged by Engels’ letter…)

由于恩格斯来信的鼓舞,马克思学习更加刻苦了。

Seen from the top of the castle, the park looks very beautiful. (= When the parkis seen from the top of the castle, …)

从城堡顶端看,公园十分美丽。

(5)注意与现在分词和不定式的区别

作定语时:the sports meeting held last week上周举行的运动会。

the sports meeting being held now现在正举行的运动会。

the sports meeting to be held tomorrow明天将举行的运动会。

作状语时:

Tom is sitting under the tree, reading English.

汤姆正坐在树下读英语。

The trainer appeared, followed by six little dogs.

训练者出现了,后面跟着六条小狗。

He has nothing to be taken to the city.

他没有什么东西需要带到城里去。

2.Revise the Attributive ClauseIII. Presentation

Read the introduction aloud. Books closed. Say :now listen to the dialogue and find out the following information.

1. Why did Mr Ball call on Mrs Zhu?

2. Where does Dr Zhang come from?

3. What is the message in the conversation?

4. How much do you know about Dr Zhang?

Let the students answer the questions in pairs.

Answers:

1.To give her a message about the date for the conference.

2.He comes from Guangzhou.

3.The message is that the conference has been delayed until 15th and 16th.

Then play the tape again, collect answers from the class. Ask some studentsto answer the fourth question.

Answer 4: He lives in Guangzhou, is on a visit to Beijing, has some personal affairs to see to, is visiting some relatives.

IV. Dialogue

Play the tape of the dialogue for the students to listen and follow. Go through the dialogue briefly and make sure the students understand it.

V. Practice

1. Ask some students to repeat the dialogue. Then let the students practisethe dialogue in pairs/threes/small groups. Ask one pair to act the scene in front of the class.

2. Explain the useful expressions. eg.

Call on sb, have a seat, see toMean to , personal affairs3. Ask some students to make sentences with the useful expressions.

VI. Practice

Read through the phrases with students. Then books shut. Do a repetition drill with the class, paying particular attention to intention. Books open. Ask students to give short example sentences with “It’s time I …”。 Then let the students practise this in pairs. Ask some students to give short sentences with therest other. Get them to act out their dialogue in front of the class.

1. 我希望今天五点钟到你家拜访你。
